Outreach program brings books to house bound readers

Deb Gondringer reports Columbus Public Library's Outreach for Residential Service, started October 1974, delivering large print and regular books to 48 homebound patrons with 20 volunteers. Materials checked out for two weeks, no fines, including talking and Braille options via Lincoln.

ABP trial recessed to permit more conferences

Bloodmobile Visit Scheduled at Columbus Park

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will be at Columbus Agricultural Park on Tuesday October 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Wednesday October 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-in donors welcome. Parental permission required for donors under 18 each time.

Exon Urges Budget Cuts to Avoid Tax Hikes

Gov. J James Exon warned Nebraska lawmakers that if the budget is not trimmed and current tax rates kept, the general fund could be $40 million short by June 30 1976. He proposed cutting the budget by 6.9 million plus 3.5 million not needed for expenditures and urged the Board of Equalization to waive overlevy rules this year.

St Edward Tops CIP Division in Nebraska 1975 Awards

Eight communities earned All Nebraska honors as St Edward won first in Class III mainstay communities. Clarkson placed in Class II with Leigh and Albion also recognized. Special awards praised Leigh for downtown improvement and farm and ranch development while St Edward and Clarkson received health and safety and public facilities notices. Governor Exon presented the awards in Lincoln.

Looking Glass community and its enduring church history

Platte County story chronicles Looking Glass eight miles south of Lindsay and 18 northwest of Columbus. It outlines the settlement by Swedes, the formation of Looking Glass Methodist Church in 1872, the 1881 building, post office 1873 to 1904, notable graves, and repeated storms testing the church. In 1974 a new addition was added to the church.
