Laura Rice a Columbus Senior High senior was named 1977 Platte County Junior Miss. She will compete at the State Junior Miss pageant in January at Grand Island and represent Columbus at the Columbus Festival in Ohio. First and second runners up were Karin Saalfeld and Joan Nelson. Scholarships awarded included 250 for the winner and 125 and 75 for runners up.

Fire of undetermined origin Saturday night destroyed the Bill Armentraut Sr. farm home six miles northeast of Leigh. The family was away when Leigh firemen arrived. the two story frame house burned to the ground with all possessions lost except the clothes worn. The farm is owned by Stanley Gall of Clarkson.
