The 6th annual Professional Opportunities Conference will be held December 10 at the University of Nebraska College of Agriculture and Home Economics East. NU agricultural students will meet 24 industrial representatives, government and university personnel to discuss job opportunities and requirements. Classes on East Campus will be dismissed 1 to 11 p.m. for the event.
Lincoln Nebraska reports the number of cattle on feed increased one percent from last year and seventeen percent above October. The State Federal Division of Agricultural Statistics says Nebraska livestockmen had 1,355,000 head on feed. During October 190,000 head were placed on feed, up seven percent from 429,000 placed in October, 18.
Lincoln reports yearlong experiments at the University of Nebraska Field Laboratory Mead evaluating waste disposal structures for feedlots. Conrad B Gilbertson and USDA ARS engineer Gubertson lead a team to develop practical regulations and designs, noting current installations, design challenges, and the need for more field data before universal plans can be drawn.
At the Columbus Prague Credit Association 34th annual meeting on November 2 1961 a prediction contest invited members to forecast fat cattle and hog prices on September 30 1969 and the association volume. Sixteen hit the nose with cattle at 275 per cwt while hog and volume estimates varied. Winners will receive cash prizes at the 6th annual meeting November 20 at the Platte County Agricultural Park. Columbus PCA is a member owned agricultural loan cooperative serving several Nebraska counties.

Fed cattle sales expected above year ago. hog slaughter below prior year early 1976, with pork and beef production rising overall for 1970.

Hardin urges a redesigned national farm program to raise net income and improve markets while avoiding harm to farming efficiency He criticizes Nixon Administration delays and notes current provisions run through 1970 He says programs have prioritized resource adjustment and subsidies for farming.
ARS researchers led by L N Mielke report organic matter in feedlots acts as mulch and alters water runoff. Studies cover soil water pollution potential from beef cattle, runoff volumes from snowmelt vs rain, and factors like infiltration and soil compaction at Nebraska sites.
University of Nebraska engineers report a slanted-bar feeding rack reduces waste of hay and silage for dairy cattle in pastures or open lots. E A Olson notes slanted bars outperform vertical designs, aiding dairymen in rough feed situations.

The University of Nebraska Agricultural Experiment Station Workers Conference will run November 25 and 26 at the Center for Continuing Education in Lincoln. Speakers include R. L. Lovorn of Washington DC, coordinator of the Cooperative State Research Service USDA, along with Dean E. Frolik, President Joseph Soshnik, Congressman Hubert Denney, State Senator Kremer, NU Regent Raun, Dr. Colwell, and Dean Magrath. Magrath will deliver the banquet address on The University and the Student.
