Judge rules for landlord in tenant occupation bias case
A New York State judge ruled that a landlord may refuse rental based on occupation or appearance, saying a landlord can reject intelligent persons or singers if it avoids future trouble. The decision, likely precedential, centered on a landlord who refused to rent to a black, divorced woman because she was a lawyer, with the judge asserting racial or marital status cannot be used but other criteria may apply.
