The FDA releases a tentative review of food additives including monosodium glutamate caffeine in cola and the preservative BHT. The panel split on caffeine levels with calls for further study while noting concerns about children brain development and unanswered animal studies.

UPI reports Nadia Comaneci, the 14 year old Olympic gymnast, will headline Nadia From Romania with Love on CBS television November 28. Comaneci will be filmed in Romania with Flip Wilson and Monte Kay, staying in her homeland to maintain training and avoid sensational exposure.
Local 516 of the International Brotherhood of Police Officers filed a petition with the Nebraska Industrial Relations Court after the city refused to bargain for the current fiscal year. Degan Ahlschwede says the city argued no economic items would be negotiated this year since bargaining began late. The union had announced plans to seek a court ruling after refusing to negotiate non economic items for the next budget.
