Longtime Platte County courthouse worker to retire after 37 years

Governor Exon Names Area Award Winners in Nebraska

Governor J James Exon awarded 48 communities and four neighborhoods Friday night for Community Improvement Program achievements. Strang Davenport Scribner Crete and North Platte won first place in community categories with West Central Development Council of Omaha top in neighborhoods. All Nebraska designations went to Aurora Falls City Scottsbluff North Platte Grand Island Lexington and Ralston. Leigh Fullerton David City Clarkson earned various honors in health safety facilities and youth involvement.

Carter in Good Health Plans First Working Vacation

President elect Carter, reported in good health by Dr. Edwin P. Lochridge, walked with family in rural Georgia and studied briefing papers for hundreds of appointments and a new administration. He will spend a working vacation on St Simons Island while arranging a legislative program. He spoke with aides about Carter family holdings and possible disposition of assets.

Baker Seeks Senate Minority Leader Post

Senator Howard Baker of Tennessee has informed all Republican colleagues he is interested in becoming the Senate minority leader. An aide said Baker contacted members by phone or letter, including those elected on Tuesday, to push his bid as a potential springboard for a 1980 presidential run.

Hospital Bazaar to Benefit Columbus Facility

The Columbus Community Hospital Auxiliary Bazaar, led by Mrs. Ruth Crooks, runs Sunday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the National Guard armory. The group of 98 members plus 45 associates donates all profits to hospital needs, with Teddy Bear parties and year round craft work supporting gifts and quilts for patients.
