The Commerce Department's Composite Index of Leading Indicators rose 1.6 percent in April signaling continued growth this summer. Four of ten indicators rose while five fell and one was unchanged, with changes in sensitive prices and vendor performance among the top contributors. The April index stood at 190.7, up 0.5 percent from March, and a department spokesman said the gain remains healthy despite revisions likely as more data arrive.

Restricted choice bridge lesson by Oswald and Jacoby
In a teaching hand Oswald and James Jacoby explain restricted choice responses. East wins the club ace returns the diamond two. South can finesse or rise with the ace, pull trumps, and pursue hearts. If hearts split 3-3, a slam is possible. the superior play depends on West’s possible king of diamonds and leading tendencies. A reader asks about preempting adverse openings and the answer affirms permissibility with partner understanding. In Valentine Nebraska, the Sandhills Cattle Association meet in Ainsworth on June 4 with Paul Engler of Cactus Feeders as featured speaker on financial stability in the cattle industry.
