Four former Columbus men drown in Nebraska boating accident
The Sherman County sheriff reports Gary Kyriss about 35 of Columbus presumed drowned after a Sunday night boat outing at Sherman Reservoir near Loup City. The body of Jack Jurzenski 43 of St Paul was recovered near the dam and the 14 foot boat found nearby. Kyriss and his wife ran a tavern at Loup City and left behind three children Terry Geralyn and Todd.

Raft Regatta Draws 3000 Fans as Schuyler Jaycees Host Finish
About 3000 spectators watched the Raft Regatta finish along the Columbus to Schuyler course. Of 110 entrants, 106 started after two failed to appear and two were disqualified. Wayne Bockmann and George Hassel of Grand Island won in 2 hours 40 minutes. First place among family teams went to Steve and Robert Norton of Yutan, 20th overall. Linda Johnson and Jani Humphrey led the women’s teams, with Buddy and Penny Houfek of Schuyler earning husband-wife honors. Tom Dayer of Schuyler and Mike Allan of North Bend finished third overall. Larry Karel chaired the Jaycee event.
