NHL and Players Union Reach Model Contract Agreement
A new collective bargaining pact between the NHL and its players includes a no option clause, a conditional release end term, and automatic team compensation rules. It also raises annual salary steps and creates an impartial arbitration path if teams fail to agree. Alan Eagleson helped craft the deal while Bobby Orr, whose Bruins contract expires June 1, is noted as exempt from compensation due to a unique addendum.
