Columbus Restores Downtown Facades and Spirit
A 1970s downtown improvement effort in Columbus rebuilt aging brick storefronts from 13th to 15th Streets, replacing mortar, cleaning windows, and adding signage rules. Architects and contractors modernized nine blocks, added off street parking, and planned trees. city leaders forecast renewed pride and commerce as the street’s “wild west” flavor faded into a brighter, cohesive historic district.
