Platte County's Gleason saga from early settlement to cemetery remnant

In Platte County 1858 to 1861 surveyors laid out sections that clashed with existing farms. Irish families Michael Kelly, Thomas Lynch, John Dineen, and Patrick Gleason settled along Shell Creek forming St. Patrick parish. A 1873 post office and a planned town failed when Union Pacific bypassed Gleason, shifting growth to Platte Center. Today only St. Patrick Cemetery remains near Columbus.
