A low pressure system in northeast Iowa and a cold front sweeping through Missouri and Kansas brought overcast skies and cooler temperatures across Nebraska. Readings midday ranged in the 40s and 50s with upper 50s expected. Overnight lows mostly 20s to 30s west and central, around 30 in the east, with highs in the 50s in eastern areas. A severe thunderstorm watch earlier and a few snow flurries were reported in western and central regions.

Humphrey weighs 1976 nomination bid if no clear lead by summer

Gondola Cars Fall From Cables At Vail Mountain
Two six passenger gondola cars snapped loose from their cables on Vail Mountain and plunged to the slopes. Officials said no one was killed and an ambulance shuttle ferried the injured to Vail Valley Medical Center. The number of injuries was not yet known.

Higginbotham Sentenced in Nebraska Penal Complex Case
Terry Higginbotham of Columbus was sentenced to one year in the Nebraska Penal and Correctional system after pleading guilty last Friday to stealing or receiving a stolen automobile. He earned one credit for time served in the Platte region.
