Partly cloudy forecast across Nebraska with fire danger

Partly cloudy conditions dominate western Nebraska while the east sees overcast skies and light drizzle in spots. Highs near 70 in the east with 87 at Valentine and 67 at Fairbury. overnight lows from Chadron to Alliance dip to the 50s and 30s. Winds from the south 15 to 30 mph gusting to 40 in the Panhandle, north winds 20 to 30 mph elsewhere. Nebraska rangeland fire danger is very high to extreme due to low humidity 25 percent west to near 4 percent southeast and gusty winds. The outlook calls for partly cloudy western Nebraska Friday with eastern skies remaining unsettled.

Second stolen Pesectreres found abandoned near rail tracks

A second stolen Pesectreres vehicle was found abandoned about three miles northwest of Union Pacific tracks and later struck by a train at 3 a.m. Robert McHugl reported the discovery. Franzen notes a possible connection between the two thefts as police continue the investigation.

Platte County Election Commissioner Dorothy Kyriss reports 13970 registered voters as of Wednesday with 626 Democrats 6347 Republicans and 721 Independents. City of Columbus precincts total 8226 with 4110 Democrats 3674 Republicans and 42 independents. The prior Oct. 29, 1974 count was 16798. The office on Platte County Courthouse third floor operates 8 am to 3 pm weekdays. The April 3 deadline at 3 pm applies for the May 11 primary registration.

Platte Chorale to Present Third Annual Home Concert

The Platte Chorale presents Sing as the theme for its third annual home concert on April 4 at the college fine arts theater. Cantari members perform with Location Recording Service recording and a LP album will be released late April.
