Wisconsin Michigan endures ice storm aftermath
Thousands in Wisconsin and Michigan faced candlelight, hand milking, and closed schools as an ice storm felled power lines. About 200 National Guardsmen redirected traffic while utilities labored to restore service. At least 15 people treated for carbon monoxide exposure. Detroit Edison and Consumers Power reported tens of thousands without power with initial restoration goals, and a lineman, Bobby J. Sanders, 37, died restoring lines.

Right to Work Committee vows armored truck delivery
The National Right to Work Committee pledges to deliver 66 000 contributor names to U S federal court by armored truck in a dispute with 10 major unions. Judge Charles Richey ordered disclosure to 190 major donors, while the committee offers to reveal all names from 1972 if sealed. Union attorney Joseph Rauh calls it a tactic to overwhelm the case. The committee says it will bring the names to court Monday despite lack of acceptance.

Forcing Pass and Greedy Play in Five Hearts
In a bridge discussion Oswald and Jim dissect a hand where South overreaches after a deuce of clubs opening. South wins clubs, trips trump, discards spades, and finesses to drop from five to four hearts. They explain the forcing pass concept with a sequence like one heart one spade two spades double pass, noting fourth hand’s pass can signal more hand strength and that not all passes are forcing.
