Chris Saalfeld, 16, becomes a certified locksmith after a local gum ball machine project. He took a correspondence course, earned a professional and advanced certificate, rekeyed banks and city buildings, and now runs a mobile shop with a mountain focus. He handles house, car, and safety deposit box calls and bills quarterly for IRS compliance.

Platte College choruses tour Nebraska high schools

One-year Regents' scholars named from Nebraska high schools

Ninety two Nebraskan high school students including Diane Duren Scotus Central Catholic Ann Ekstrand Lakeview and Sharon Nelson Columbus are offered one-year Regents' scholarships to the University of Nebraska Lincoln based on ACT scores. The list also includes students from Albion Clarks Lindsay Newman Grove and Lakeview with a concert and festival itinerary planned through spring. Patti Scarlett Albion and Tom Briese Humphrey area students are among the top 300 invited to Red Carpet Days at UNL to learn about programs and campus life.

Leigh Madhouse Market Changes Hands in Leigh

Leigh GH Paul’s Madhouse Market has been sold to El Ray and Imogene Buckendahl of Norfolk. The building was sold by LeRoy Falken and the business by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Millard, who hosted an open house for customers. The store will operate as Leigh Madhouse Market and the Buckendahls plan to move to Leigh.

Meany Old Devil Guards Junk Filled Farmstead

STANLINHORST SCHUYLER-Richard Bohaty calls himself a mean old devil and his front door sign warns trespassers. He keeps an enormous barb wire collection and other relics across his Schuyler farm, with stories of past mischief and a life built on junk.
