Weiler to receive Eagle Scout award

Bob Weiler son of Mr and Mrs Robert Weiler will receive his Eagle Scout award in a ceremony Sunday at 6 30 p m at St Bonaventure Social Hall He joined Cub Scouts in October 1869 and progressed through Pack 15 earning Wolf and Bear He became Webelos in October 1971 and earned Arrow of Light in May 1972 His Webelos Leader was Mr Bernie Bogus He joined Boy Scouts October 1972 in Troop 115 earning Tenderfoot Second Class Star Life and more He earned Mile Swim at Sulamec Camp and Advent Allare Dei in 1979 He was in Order of the Arrow and served as various troop leadership positions His Eagle project created a Cub Scout Softball League for about 60 boys in summer 1976 He is an honor student at Scotus Central Catholic High School and member of Columbian Squires Robert F Kennedy Circle No 2065.

Hall of Fame opens in Platte County with 10 inductees

The Platte County Agricultural Society inaugurates its Hall of Fame with ten indcutees: M M Taylor Helen Gehner Walter Matzen Henry Buss Julius Nyffeler William H Smith Marion Van Berg Theodore Friedhaf A P Peterson and Dr G H Leenerts. Tonight includes a cocktail hour at 6 30 p m and dinner at 7 30 p m in the Agricultural Park club room.

Highway signs stay in miles not metric

United States government reversed plans to convert highway signs to the metric system. Federal Highway Administrator William Cox cited over 20 thousand comments and about 88 percent opposition, abandoning the 1978 start date and 1982 completion target.

Carter Offers $6,000 Tax Payment On Principle

President Carter, stating a belief that a person should pay some tax, offered to pay $6,000 as income tax for 1976. White House releases show the Carters had net taxable income of $39,466 and may owe taxes offset by $20,064 in peanut warehouse expenses, with the extra to be refunded after the $6,000 payment.
