The Commerce Department reports May 1977 US trade deficit at 1.2 billion dollars, the smallest for the year so far, as imports fall 17 percent and exports rise 4 percent to 10.4 billion. Youths drown car plunges into Loup canal near Highway 81
The 19 year old David MacIntosh of St Edward drowned when a car driven by Jeff Wallick of Columbus with four youths aboard went through a wooden bridge railing into the Loup Power District canal one mile west of Highway 81 at 1 30 Sunday morning. MacIntosh could not swim and disappeared as the others swam to shore. Rescue efforts began at daylight but the body was recovered later as police called it an accidental drowning rather than a highway fatality.
