Farm price rise boosts beef costs and meat prices peak
UPI reports the Agriculture Department data for the month ending June 15 shows a 2 percent rise in the farm price index led by higher hog and cattle prices which pushed retail beef to a new high. Beef cattle averaged 38.40 dollars per hundredweight, hogs 17.20, with meat animals up 4 percent from May. Wheat and other grains fell 13 percent, corn edged up, and vegetable prices surged with potatoes up sharply.
