Platte County Hall of Fame to induct ten founders supporters tonight

Ten individuals including M M Taylor Helen Gehner Walter Matzen Henry Buss Julius Nyffeler William J Smith Marion Van Berg Theodore Friedhof A P Peterson and Dr G H Leenerts will be honored at the Platte County Agricultural Society Hall of Fame inaugural session at Agricultural Park. The program includes a 6 30 p m cocktail hour and 7 30 p m dinner and a look at the group as founders and supporters of the society.

Carter offers 6000 payment of income tax for 1976

President Carter, citing principle, proposed paying 6000 as his income tax for 1976. White House released documents showing net taxable income of 39306 with 20864 in peanut warehouse expenses offsetting tax. Carter asked Atlanta district IRS director John Henderson to accept 6000 as payment and refund the remaining prepaid tax after an 8 dollar credit.

Public Pool Closed For Meet Through Sunday

The Columbus pool will be closed until 4 p.m. Sunday due to a swimming meet. The baby pool will be closed all day Sunday.

Highway signs will stay in miles not metric

Washington officials said public pressure forced the drop of a plan to convert highway signs to the metric system. Federal Highway Administrator William Cox noted over 5 000 comments with about 98 percent negative and said the July 1 1978 start and September 30 1982 deadline were abandoned due to massive public opposition.
