Viergutz Lumber Yard Sold as Foster Co Takes Over

After 77 years Viergutz Lumber Yard at 13th Street and 23rd Avenue passes to S A Foster Lumber Co. Kirk Norman will be manager and moves with his wife Alice to Columbus. Gus Viergutz to remain active at nearby Glur's Tavern as his family business shifts.

Suspect shot by Omaha police amid pursuit

In Omaha a 15 to 16 year old suspect was killed after being shot during a struggle with officers. Police say the youth had a purse with credit cards but no money, fingerprints did not match files, and investigations by internal affairs and the Douglas County attorney are ongoing. This is the first fatal police shooting since Roy L to Lan drum last August.

Fatal Friday Night Crash Near Mason and Elks

A man was killed and four injured in a car pickup crash Friday near the Mason Road and Elks Country Club intersection just north of Platte College. Names withheld pending relatives, all four injured being from Columbus: Ken Wehrer his wife Arlys and Daniel and Betsy Dubas. The southbound car swerved into the northbound pickup end of the east ditch. Fire followed the crash and a Columbus victim was pulled from a vehicle before the gas tank exploded. The injured were taken to Columbus Community by rescue squad.
