Neb gas tax hike bills draw strong support in public hearing
Lincoln Nebraska lawmakers heard broad support for LB139 raising the gasoline tax by one cent and LB185 lifting motor vehicle registration fees by 10 dollars per year. Proponents led by Robert Crosby cited $10 million annual gas tax revenue and about $3 million from the registration hike, with funds shared 53.3 23.3 and 23.3 percent to state cities and counties. Opponents argued extra registration costs fall on carriers and local governments, urging fuel tax rather than registration fees for road funding.
