Wheat plantings cut as 1977 winter crop outlook damp
Agriculture Department reports a 3 percent drop in winter wheat plantings for 1977 with about 55.8 million acres sown. Yields are projected at 25.8 bushels per acre, totaling roughly 1.438 billion bushels if conditions hold, down from 27.1 and 1.566 billion in 1976. The decline ends a six year rise in winter wheat planting while most production remains in winter and spring crops.
