Giant Mount Fuji Snowman Heads to Waikiki on New Year
In Hawaii a 16 foot snowman made from Mount Fuji snow arrives at Waikiki Beach for New Year’s Day. Creator Osamu Sato from Saitama plans to melt it in three hours after a Honolulu resident’s wish to see Fuji snow. Five tons of Fuji snow will be shipped by refrigerated plane for the project. Work begins New Year’s Eve.

Patient in straight jacket triggers University Hospital fire
A patient in a straight jacket used a cigarette lighter to burn the straps, sparking a three alarm fire at University Hospital. Nurses evacuated about 45 patients. damages were $7,000 total and the blaze remained confined to one room on the sixth floor.
