Lawmakers pledge to resurrect lobbying disclosure legislation early in the new Congress. Two stalled Senate and House bills from the prior session aim to require disclosures but details on who must disclose and the scope of disclosure are still under debate.
Washington UPI reports Brock Adams, nominated for secretary of transportation, must decide whether to permit continued Concorde landings at US airports. Adams supported SST funding in 1972 and previously backed development of the aircraft amid environmental opposition. He has long served in Congress and led the Budget Committee, with Seattle aerospace ties and a rail reform legacy.
A blast at Baghdad International Airport in the customs hall killed at least three people and wounded hundreds. A suitcase bomb packed with TNT was linked to an Egyptair flight from Damascus with passengers from Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Japan, West Germany, and Greece among the victims and casualties.

Three men were sentenced for roles in a raid that freed 14 Americans from a Mexican border jail. Donald Fielden received four years for a weapons charge after leading the operation for 451000 in fees. Sterling Davis Jr. drew five years for conspiracy and arranging Fielden’s access, to run consecutively with other terms. Willan McCayn Hill got four years plus a two year term for conspiracy and transporting a sawed off shotgun, to run consecutively. All defendants are from Louisiana.
West Virginia's Senator Byrd appears poised to win the Senate Democratic leadership as Hollings withdraws. Humphrey and Byrd race narrows with delegates counted and shifts anticipated. Cranston named as likely successor to the No. 2 post if Byrd prevails.
In Philadelphia a group of 44 representatives from women’s rights, civil rights, and labor groups formed the Coalition to End Discrimination Against Pregnant Workers after a Supreme Court ruling. They plan to visit Washington to push their demand before Congress, arguing the 6 to 3 decision did not entitle employers to deny disability benefits unless specified by contract.
A Silver Creek bridal shower at the Julius Schmid home honored Donna Gray. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Larson and Dean of Grand Island visiting her mother Mrs. Hilda Carlson, with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Martin. The event featured games, gifts, lunch, and prizes for high card and door winner Greg Hansen.
