The Nebraska State Health Department reports nursing home complaints more than doubled in three weeks. William Page said 21 complaints, many anonymous, followed news accounts. Five from Omaha, three from Lincoln, others statewide. Inspectors have been or will be sent to check for violations.

Researchers from the University of Michigan report women average 36 minutes of breaks daily versus 2 minutes for men, raising questions about wage gaps. The study notes women earn reduced hourly rates but show higher on the job effort, with unmarried women exhibiting the lowest break times and highest effort scores.
United Press International reports severe thunderstorms sweep Nebraska Saturday night. Lincoln gusts reach 69 mph with about an inch of rain in 20 minutes. Greenwood records 2.4 inches of rain east of Lincoln. trees topple, antennas down, and streets flood in several towns.
The Nebraska Highway Commission's Citizens Advisory Group approved guidelines for removing trees on state highways. The plan requires crews to follow steps before removing trees seen as safety hazards and includes studying planting to beautify roadsides and boost safety.
The U S Bureau of Reclamation reports 1.3 million emergency funds for Nebraska drought relief. Interest free loans totaling 807000 go to Central Nebraska Public Power and Irrigation District Holdrege Sargent and Farwell Irrigation Districts. Grants of 367000 support water and wildlife programs and drought education. A 95000 study funds drought relief measures for Farwell Mirage Flats and Republican River Basin. Overall 4.5 million in emergency funds requested in Lower Missouri River Region with over 3 million approved.
A 59 year old Lexington woman died after touching an electric fan placed on a damp carpet. Services for Mrs Oscar Ziebell were held in Lexington. A Arapahoe native, she had lived in Lexington since 1946 and is survived by husband Oscar son Donald daughters Janet Austin Jolene two grandchildren and two brothers and sisters.
