A total of 83 large US sugar growers received government subsidy payments of 50 000 or more last year, including two payments above 2 million. Italy's Senate President Amintore Fanfani visited Soviet Premier Alexei Kosygin in Moscow for a friendly conversation, according to Italian sources.
Senate Democratic Leader Mike Mansfield of Montana urged the Defense Department to report on using freight cars owned by major railroads and the cost of owning its own boxcars. He said railroad boxcar shortages now affect western grain and timber producers year round, with about 50,000 boxcars in use by the department.
Lincoln UPI reports Nebraska commercial hatcheries produced 482000 chicks in July, down from last year. Eye type hatch 452000. broiler type 30000 faced larger declines. Hairy itch seed growers harvested 635000 pounds of clean seed, about 27 percent less than 1958.
