Nebraska senator seeks guidance on I 80 bicentennial sculptures
State Sen. Ralph Kelly of Grand Island asks the Executive Board for direction on the Interstate 80 bicentennial sculpture project amid strong public opposition. Letters to editors favor more Nebraskan imagery such as windmills or cowboys over the current modernist works. The Nebraska Bicentennial Commission discussed the issue but cannot redesign, as artists are already contracted and living in affected rest areas.
