Disaster kills 123 as Soviet airliner crashes near Damascus
A Czechoslovak Jettiner crashed in a desert 42 miles from Damascus during a night landing. Authorities say 123 died and two survived among 117 passengers and crew. A Syrian doctor and a two year old girl were the only other survivors. one infant died after hospitalization. The crash occurred in the Wadie E Rabieh hills east of the airport. cause under investigation. The aircraft was en route from Prague to Damascus, with planned stops to Baghdad and Tehran.

Platte College Fall Registration and Classes Begin
Platte College registration for the full semester started Tuesday evening and continues today with evening sessions from 6 41 to 8 30 p m in the Student Center. Weeklong registration hours are 8 00 a m to 1 00 p m and 1 00 p m to 4 30 p m. Fall classes begin Monday August 25 at 8 00 a m. Evening classes start on the day of the regular meeting. Despite many closed classes there is a wide selection for interested individuals. Pre registration during the summer months suggests a large enrollment for 1975 76. Students who have not pre registered should contact the Student Service Division. All courses are approved for veteran benefits.

Three juveniles to be charged in engine thefts
Three boys ages 13 14 and 13 will be charged today in Platte County Court over three engine thefts from Columbus firms. They allegedly took two engines from Columbus Feed Mill and one from Columbus Graft Co. A 10 speed bicycle found with the engines remains under investigation for ownership.
