Hastings grain elevator blast injures three center stage
Two men were critically burned and a third was seriously hurt in a mid morning explosion and fire at the Central Soya Elevators in south Hastings. A Sabetha, Kansas man was in satisfactory condition. Fire officials said the blaze started in a welding operation in the headhouse about 150 feet above street level and took about an hour to control.

Bouc Completes Eight Week Youth Conservation Camp Stint
Ron Bouc son of Mr and Mrs Emil Bouc has returned from an eight week Youth Conservation Corps assignment with a three member crew based at a McCook Community College dormitory. The YCC now in its fourth year gives 15 to 18 year olds conservation work on public land summer jobs and environmental education. Bouc worked on lakes in southwest Nebraska and northern Kansas undertaking projects including digging toilets and pouring concrete.
