A Beech Model 35 crashed in a farm pasture seven and a half miles south and one and a half miles west of Columbus shortly after takeoff from Columbus airport killing three men Thomas Monasmith 27 David Sukup 26 and Richard Wall 23 Identification was through Sukup and the wreckage spread over acres with a crater four feet deep The aircraft did not burn and a flight plan was not filed authorities said The victims included Monasmith assistant manager at Hinky Dinky and Sukup manager at TSC in Lincoln

NEWMAN GROVE The second annual Norwegian Festival began Sunday with the Myron Floren Show at 7 and a street dance featuring Young Country at 9. Sunday afternoon offered free entertainment by the Commercial Club as Barb Ingwersen dancers performed. The event included a parade demonstrations displays a parade and contests such as horseshoe pitching bicycle races and a talent show. Parade winners included Shell Creek Luther League in the religious division Neighborhood Kids and Petersburg Commercial Clubs.
