Walt Behlen argues Nebraska ground water at Columbus can heat in winter and cool in summer without depleting underground resources. He outlines a system using 56 degree water from wells to preheat air to 40 degrees and add humidity, with open spray heat exchange and eventual solar input.
The Labor Department reported a 0.3 percent increase in the Wholesale Price Index for July, yielding an annual inflation rate of 3.6 percent. Food prices slipped 1 percent while petroleum, lumber, and metal products led the gains, offsetting some inflation.
Two people died in a three truck crash Wednesday night on U S 20 four miles west of South Sioux City. Victims include James Critz, 40, of Sioux City Iowa and McGinnis, 33, of Lubbock Texas.

White House spokesman Ron Nessen said Ford’s grip on Mississippi delegates has grown with 30 votes at stake, Buckley’s possible bid would not trigger defections, and no Ford delegates are switching to Buckley. Ford leads Reagan 1,122 to 1,035 with 102 uncommitted in the latest UPI tally.

A 19 year old red haired sniper from Sand Springs Oklahoma fired from the 26th floor of the Holiday Inn in Wichita. He killed two people and wounded seven others before police captured him. Victims include Joseph Goulart and Elmer Hensley.
