New Job Service Manager Appointed in Columbus

William Weekly named manager of the Nebraska Job Service office in Columbus succeeding retired Dallas Berney. Weekly, who began in 1970 as an interviewer in North Platte, will direct staff and ensure services for jobseekers. The Columbus office reported July activity: 256 initial applications, 25 veterans, 119 women. 763 registrations, 78 veterans, 51 women. 88 seeking summer work. 186 employers requested 225 employees. 494 referrals, 158 placements. Manufacturing was the largest demand, with detasseling providing July summer work for about 1,100 area residents.
