Best yields among steers and heifers reported for 1050 to 1200 pound ranges, with varied prices for different grades and weights. Thursday receipts include cattle and calves 500, hogs 3,4, sheep none.

The National Weather Service logged the top reading Tuesday as 105 degrees in Las Vegas Nevada excluding Alaska and Hawaii. In contrast Pellston Michigan reported a low of 37 degrees signaling wide temperature swings across the mainland.

At Cherry Point North Carolina Captain Jerry Lawlor says the AV8A Harrier is not a death machine and pilots remain confident in its design. Nine pilots have died since 1971, six of the six aircraft crashes since February, while officials contest mechanical fault as the primary cause. Carey notes Harrier’s accident rate mirrors early jet development and remains committed to continued use and expansion of the fleet.
Monday meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary featured special guests Connie Coan 1977 Girl Stater Denise Schumacher and Kazuya Hamada from Fukushima Japan. Coan spoke on her Lincoln Girl State session in June. The group voted for a 500 poppies order for 1978 and planned August treats for the Columbus Opportunity Center. The annual audit was presented by Anna Bogus. Labor Day shifted September meeting to Sept 12 at 4 15 p.m. Social hour prizes went to Mrs. George Soulliere Henry Brock and John Jaixen. salad bar luncheon was hosted by Mrs. Ed Sokol Edith Horner Susie Bower and Otto Schmidt with card time afterwards.
Group meets with Mrs Walter Hellbusch and Mrs Louise Johannes as hostesses on Thursday. Weekend visitors in Yankton were Mr and Mrs John Krings. Family reunion in North Bend Sunday included Mrs John Mohnson with Mr and Mrs Harold Mohnsen. Visitors from Colorado came Sunday to see Mr and Mrs Marvin Wurdeman.
