Death Toll Rises for Officers in Early 1976
The FBI reports 37 state and local officers died in the first three months of 1976 in the United States and Puerto Rico, up from 31 in the same period of 1975. Of the 1976 deaths, eight occurred during disturbance calls and seven during robberies or ambushes. Firearms caused 28 deaths, including 19 by handguns.
