Four Columbus girls chosen for Cornhusker Girls State
Four Columbus girls were named delegates for the 35th annual Cornhusker Girls State to be held June 3 through 9 at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. The selections include Judi Elston, Barbara Meyer, Jane Shanle, and Glenda Plettner with alternates Dianne Johnson Sharon Krepel Karin Saalfeld. The program sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary aims to teach Nebraska girls about government through hands on involvement. about 400 girls attend annually.

House panel backs handgun control bill with Saturday night specials ban

Schuyler Electrician Critically Injured On Job
Ernie Hron an electrician with the Schuyler Department of Utilities was critically injured while working on a power line two miles east of Schuyler. He was in an aerial bucket when a falling drill prompted him to reach for it and he contacted a 2400 volt line. He remained conscious and in critical but stable condition at Ola Memorial Hospital in Omaha.
