Fire safety funding hinges on voters not fees in Placer County
Public focus on presidential races and big propositions masks local fire service funding issues. Assembly Bill 8 limits fire district share of property taxes, with Sacramento state shifts and redevelopment rules cutting district revenue. In Placer, two example homes would net only $15.80 to fund fire services after all cuts, highlighting that growth does not guarantee safer communities.

Placer County Fire Districts Seek Voter Support on Service Levels
Randy Smith urges voters to fund local fire services amid five ballot measures in Placer County. He notes rising call volumes, stagnant urban revenue, and differing district asks, with some aiming to restore 24 hour paramedic ALS response. The chief argues measures cost about the price of a Happy Meal monthly and stresses voting local first.
