Colfax Halloween Safety Event Returns With Prizes
The Placer County Sheriff’s Sub Station hosts a Halloween Safety program on Friday Oct 31 from 5 30 to 8 30 p m in front of Colfax City Hall. Children 17 and under receive a safety tip card and a chance to win a Redline bicycle and helmet. A separate Colfax Halloween Community Celebration runs 5 to 7 p m at the Colfax Methodist Church with a Costume Parade and haunted house.

Wright found guilty in second degree murder verdict
A packed Sacramento Superior Court heard a jury find Dundell Wright guilty of second degree murder in the 1999 shooting of Sacramento Police Officer Bill Bean Jr. Wright admitted firing in self defense but the verdict comes after weeks of deliberation and an anxious courtroom of law enforcement colleagues. Bill Bean Sr. attended the proceedings as officers expressed dismay at the lesser charge fix. Wright was fleeing Bean and partner David Hogge when he fired as his car stalled.
