Colfax Volunteers Return From Southern California Firefighting
Colfax, Auburn, Meadow Vista, Weimar and Newcastle volunteers faced extreme fire danger during a multi day blaze stretching from the Mexican border to Ventura County. Strike Team 4125A joined engines from Placer Consolidated and Roseville to reach Simi Valley and defend neighborhoods north of Los Angeles.

Wright faces life in prison for Sacramento officer killing
Dundell Wright was convicted of second degree murder in the Feb. 9, 1999, shooting death of Sacramento Police Officer Bill Bean Jr. in Del Paso Heights. Sentencing set for Dec. 19. Wright argued self defense but jurors rejected first degree murder, avoiding the death penalty.

Winter storm closes I-80 near Donner Summit
A sequence of autumn storms closed Interstate 80 near Donner Summit after a multi-vehicle crash involving 11 people. CHP reported minor injuries for most, one serious injury, and two big rigs on fire caused a small wildland blaze. It took 11 hours to reopen the highway.
