Colfax area offers two pumpkin patches this October. Greastone Manor on Highway 174 near Giovani's serves multiple sized pumpkins with Erick Blackmun and Cindy Brady offering tractor rides and a hay pit for kids. Open Saturdays noon to 6 and Sundays noon to 4. Bierwagen's Donner Trail Fruit on Highway 174 in Chicago Park adds a snack stand and hay rides. Sierra College ranks seventh statewide for transfer rates to four year institutions based on 2002 03 CPEC data. The college notes it still outperforms regional competitors by a wide margin while aiming for top five percent transfer to UC and CSU systems, with emphasis on Northern California figures.

Sierra College finished among three of 99 BRN Accredited RN programs with 100 percent NCLEX pass rate and earned the Pepsi NATYCAA Cup final standings. The college received commendations from Placer County Board of Supervisors and the cities of Auburn and Roseville for its athletics program.
