Deep Rooted Legumes Prove Valuable In Soil Conservation
The district promotes deep rooted legumes like alfalfa hubam and Madrid clover for soil and water conservation. Shallow rooted Dixie and Austrian winter peas offer winter cover. Roots break plow and hoof pans, improving soil structure and aiding weed and moisture management. Seed timing runs Sept 15 to Dec 1 with cost-share incentives.
