Janet Dietiker of Crawfills Gap and Mike McCarty of Walnut Springs were named 1977 4-H Gold Star recipients at the County 4-H Achievement Banquet in Clifton. Honors were presented by Kenneth Jones. Dietiker has eight years in 4-H with projects in foods garden sheep home improvement safety and leadership and has served in leadership roles. McCarty also eight years in 4-H is noted for swine projects leadership citizenship and agriculture and currently serves as president of the Walnut Springs 4-H Club. Both have repeatedly excelled at district and county shows and leadership programs.

Clifton records Mitchell heads CTU as new president
William G. Mitchell elected president of Central Telephone & Utilities Corp and subsidiaries effective November 15, joining CTU’s executive committee. Robert P. Reuss will step down as president but remain chairman and CEO. Mitchell, 46, has since 1974 served CTU as director and finance committee member and has chaired the employee benefits committee. He formerly led Beatrice Foods Co. as chairman and CEO before resigning last month. Mitchell also chairs Nortrust Corp. and Northern Trust Co. boards and holds law degrees from Northwestern.
