Seventh Grade Cubettes Win 11A District Volleyball Title
Clifton’s Seventh Grade Cubettes captured the District 11A championship at Hico on Oct. 25 by defeating Academy after a bye in the first round. They won 16-14 and 15-13 in two tight matches, with players Kathy Phillips Laura Hickman Stephanie Patterson Nicole McCord Kelli Davie Terri Herzog Karen Pearson Kathryn Vance and Virginia Sanders leading the effort as they prepare for basketball season.

Marine officer takes part in Fortress Lightning exercise
Marine Sec Lt Paul S Bissing son of Mr and Mrs Paul G Bissing Whitney took part in Fortress Lightning in the Philippines as first platoon commander of Battalion Landing Team Three Slant Nine based in Okinawa. The two week exercise involved 30 ships and Seventh Fleet aircraft with Philippine Navy and Marine Corps and aimed at amphibious landing techniques. Bissing graduated in 1975 from the University of South Carolina Columbia with a BA and joined the Marine Corps in March 1976.

They defeated Rio Vista in a three game match 6-15 15-8 15-4 on Oct 24 and beat Hico 15-1 15-2 in the district tournament. Six matches yielded four wins led by Holley Raines Patches Schmidt Lisa Hurst Jan Plemons Kelly Carpenter Thumper Schmidt Joe Curlee and Sharon Culp with team managers Marian Bergman and Beth Conrad.
