Texans buried in Bosque County memory of early settlers
A reader notes potential Texas Revolution veterans buried near Iredell in Bosque County. William Berry Smith is listed by the Texas Guide to official Texas Historical Markers as buried four miles west of Iredell on Highway 6 with a 1936 Centennial marker. The letter cites Lee R. Davis born 1809 in Tennessee and a 1840 land grant in Milam District. Davis joined the 1836 Texas Rangers and later stories mention descendants in Bosque County. The piece also recalls early settlers Albert Barton and Sam Barnes, Civil War service, and the Dove Creek battle.
