Bergman Silver Wedding Anniversary Celebrated

C A Johanson Laid To Rest In Clifton Following Venus Death
Carl Andreas Johanson a prominent Clifton citizen died Saturday evening May 3 at his daughter Annie Alfer in Venus Texas. The funeral was held at the home of Mr and Mrs Wm Canuteson in Clifton with a church service at Rock Church Cranville Gap and burial in Rock Church Cemetery. The Rev W T Gigatad officiated with Trinity Lutheran Church choir providing music. Pallbearers were six of his grandsons. Born December 14 1845 in Odalen Norway he married Pauline Olson in Romedal Norway on October 29 1871. Eight children survive including Karen Nygaard John Carlson Annie Alfer Christine Hagen Palmier Carlson William Canuteson August Carlson and Oscar Carlson. He immigrated to America in 1904 settling in Orillls Gap Texas later returning to Norway in 1914 and worked as a cement and contractor. The last years were with daughter Mrs William Larson in Clifton. He was 96 years four months old with forty-four grandchildren and fifty-eight great grandchildren.

Two Clifton youths escape capsized boat on Mongo River
Pan Orbock and Claude Denton, Clifton youths, rode a small flat boat with a gasoline motor on the Mongo river. When the current grew swift the craft capsized. They clung to a tree for several hours until rescue arrived, aided by long ropes and bystanders.
