Voters Face Trustee Elections in Four Bosque Districts

Bosque County residents will vote on April 6 in four school districts Clifton Crawfills Gap Meridian and Valley Mills to elect trustees. Only enough candidates filed to fill seats in most districts with Morgan and Walnut Springs having limited races. Countywide, Precinct 4 James Gibbs seeks county board election.

Clifton Cubs Track Team Competes Across Meets

Clifton High's track program trains toward district and regional meets in April. At the Hamilton meet three Cubs scored: Bernard Erickson second in shot put and fourth in discus, Ronnie Thomas third in the mile, Bart Townsend tied for fourth in pole vault. Santa Anna won the meet. Next, Clifton placed second in a meet against Stephenville and others led by Stephenville. Ronnie Thomas ran a 4 4:49 mile and Bernard Frickson threw 54 feet. On March 16, the Cubs enter the Tarleton Relays at Stephenville with 35 schools in two classes. Participants include Petersburg Lake Worth Granbury Baird Dublin Comanche Anson Rising Star Jacksboro Clyde Aledo Decatur Iowa Park Mullins Lake Highlands Evant.

Mangum Eligible for Pi Kappa Theta Honorary

Paul Mangum son of Mr and Mrs Granville Mangum of this city and a freshman at Arlington State College becomes eligible for membership in Pi Kappa Theta honorary scholastic society after first semester. Homer McDougal Named President of Central Texas Fair

Homer McDougal was named president of the Central Texas Fair at a Clifton City Hall meeting. Officers named include BL Dahl as vice president Dan Amundson as secretary treasurer and Willie Wenzel as assistant treasurer. New directors are W. A. Moffitt James Gibbs Hubert Viertel. Dates for the fair are September 19 20 21 with a rodeo and youth shows in Bosque and surrounding counties.

Mrs J M Witcher Dies in Clifton Hospital

Mrs J M Witcher aged 83 of Gatesville died in Clifton hospital about 6:00 a m Monday March 11 following a stroke and long illness. She was mother of Dr S L Witcher of Clifton and had lived in the area since 1915. Funeral services were held March 12 at the First Baptist Church Gatesville with interment in Gatesville Cemetery.

Visit to Church Cancelled for Dr. Alice Wonders

Dr. Alice W Wonders of Texas Wesleyan College Fort Worth was scheduled to speak at Coyote Methodist Church Sunday night March 17 but canceled due to illness per Reverend Wesley Van Norden. Clifton High Band Students Win First Division Medals

Clifton High School band students earned first division medals at the Region III Solo and Ensemble Contest held at Temple High School. Recipients include Christie Jenson Peggy Aars Kenneth Holder Eric Swenson David Westley and the trombone quartet of Stephen Zimmerman Kenneth Holder Tommy Patterson and Bill Godby. The group entered 27 events as director Bill B. Brown noted. A Clifton Band Parents Association meeting is set for 7 30 p m Tuesday March 19 in the Band Hall with scheduling changes noted.

Baseball Group Meets in Clifton Sets Up Officer Noms

The Clifton Baseball and Sports for Youth Association met March 12 and formed a nominating committee for its officer slate. A second meeting is planned for March 19 at 7 30 P M in Clifton City Hall to elect officers and plan the summer program. Boys lacking applications should submit by Tuesday night or at the meeting. Clubs expect multiple youth teams across ages 7 to 15 with Turnersville Valley Mills Crawford Gap Meridian and Hamilton among league participants.

Guard Slugged During Escape Attempt at Mountain View School

Maxie Wallace, guard at Mountain View School for Boys in Gatesville and son of Clifton residents, was assaulted by seven inmates during a failed escape Monday night March 4. He suffered minor scratches and bruises, was tied with a belt, and the inmates were blocked at the barbed wire fence before guards recovered them.

M. A. Belcher is recovering after stomach surgery at the local hospital begun March 7 and remained a patient this week. Mrs. Charles M. Isenhower traveled to Albany after learning her father W. T. Brown had a stroke that morning and his condition is serious. Reverend and Mrs. Guy H. Wilson moved to 503 West Pecan Street last week purchasing the home from Eva McCoy, with Mrs. McCoy joining them. Wilson is a retired Methodist minister and Clifton folks welcome the family.
