Miss Clifton Contest Winners Named in Clifton Event

Baytor University freshman Mary Nell Hoel was named Miss Clifton and Nell Conway, Clifton High sophomore, was chosen Junior Miss Clifton at the March 2 contest in Bettis Auditorium. Winners advance to Lake Whitney pageant and Miss Universe finals. judges were local officials, with Mary Nell Hoel receiving the Miss Clifton trophy and plaques awarded to runners up.

Fort Worth Man Harry J Cooper Dies After Stroke

Harry J Cooper, 74, of Fort Worth, died early Thursday March 7 following a paralytic stroke. Born at Clifton, he lived in Mim bres Hot Springs and Silver City New Mexico before retiring to Fort Worth ten years ago. He is survived by his wife Winnie Weston Cooper and two daughters. funeral plans were pending arrival of a daughter from Guatemala with services expected in Clifton Saturday.

Memorial Museum Opens Sundays in Clifton

The Hosque Memorial Museum in Clifton will be open Sundays from 2 to 5 PM through the end of summer. Weekday tours available by appointment via Mrs Louis Surley in Clifton. Also urging visitors to tour Bosque County museums. Local student Larry Pullin was hospitalized this week with illness suspected to be glandular fever.

Clifton Cubs Land Player On All-District First Team

Clifton High had Ronnie Thomas named to the all district first team as senior stars from Alvarado Itasca Joshua Glen Rose and Midlothian also earned spots. Clifton also placed two players on the second team and had several honorable mentions across the district. Glen Rose led the girls selections with Janice Willenberg on the first team and Christie Jenson on the second.

4-H Youth Show Cattle Win Calves In Scramble At Houston Fat Stock Show

4-H Club members from Besque County did well at the Houston Fat Stock Show last week. Derril Wenzel won second in lightweight Shorthorn for the Junior steer show and Charlotte Miles placed sixth in the same class. Randy Lee and Melvin Prescher placed in Hereford Scramble, with Barry Polk placing fifth in the Jersey class. Calf scramble participants Glenn Hanson and Douglas Sonntag caught calves and will receive certificates to buy beef heifers to show next year, pending records. Allen Alford Jr. and Kenneth Wiese entered the Dairy Calf Scramble but did not catch a calf.

Baseball Association Will Meet March 12

Regular annual meeting of the Clifton Baseball and Sports for Youth Association Inc will be held at 7 30 o clock on Tuesday night next week March 12 in the City Hall dining room with President E E Harvey presiding Reports will be made election of officers will be held and plans for the 1963 baseball season for boys ages 7 through 16 will be set up All parents and interested parties are urged to attend the meeting next week Also individual applications of the boys previously distributed at school should be turned in at the meeting Tuesday night

Lions Hear Talk On Social Security

Clifton Lions Club heard Richard Hargrove of the Social Security Administration explain program basics for Bosque County residents. He cited about 2,000 of 2,200 seniors as beneficiaries, monthly checks around 100000 total, and showed maximum potential payments totaling 34603.60 for a long lived couple. Clifton FFA boys compete at Houston Fat Stock Show

Five members of Clifton Chapter of the Future Farmers of America entered stock at the Houston Fat Stock Show. Gerald Peacock accompanied the group. Fred Erickson placed 11th with an Angus steer. Roddy Bramlett placed 21st with another Angus steer. Each calf earned 40 cents a pound. Other attendees and animals included David Gouldman Shorthorn steer Gary Holt Shorthorn steer and Erwin Dahl Angus steer per Carroll Draper FFA Reporter.
