Sheep and Goat Field Day Planned at McGregor Station

McGregor Experiment Station schedules the annual Sheep and Goat Field Day for Friday March 29 with a 930 AM start after registration. Program includes shipping and mohair marketing talks by Jack Groff, research reviews by Dr Mauree Shelton, TSAGRA district meeting, and a Bosque County director election during the day. Visitors may tour the station after lunch and consult extension staff for details.

Dennis Featherston of Gatesville entered Clifton hospital for treatment this week. Tarleton State College students Jomten Surley and Ann Stewart visited the Surles family last weekend. Mrs WC Locklear, who had surgery March 15, returned home Wednesday. Clifton visitors include Willie Lane and Prinston Jenkins with O E Jenkins of Waco visiting Lubbock relatives. Reverend Guy Wilson’s daughter Cathy and Mrs Gene W Marshall of Chicago visited. Mrs LV Bannon of Houston also stayed two weeks. Henry Carr and family visited Garland and Dallas with daughter Nellie Carr, finalist in the Southwest Contact Lens Beauty Contest at The Adolphus.

Uniform Purchasing Committee Named At Clifton Band Parents Meet

At the Clifton Band Parents Association meeting a Uniform Purchasing Committee was formed to raise funds for new Clifton High School Band uniforms. Members include Calvert H Hoel chairman Troy Egren Lord Swenson Wil Krueger Jr and Mrs Harlan Hoel and Mrs Eldon Zimmerman The group plans to seek money via a snow cone machine at the Spring Carnival and outlines a need for about 60 uniforms costing just under 6000.00 for the 1963 64 school year The association also schedules the annual Awards Banquet for May 17 or 18 with a program and entertainment committee named.

Clifton Sunset Home Corporation Holds Annual Meeting

The Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home Corporation held its regular annual meeting in the campus chapel at 2:00 p.m. Monday March 4 with Rev Iver Haugen presiding in the absence of chairman Rev R L Otterstad. Reports on 1962 operations were heard from Chaplain W T Gigstad and Superintendent Odie C Pederson. Orbin Swenson Dies in Austin

Funeral services were held for Orbin Emmanuel Swenson aged 49 years at Clifton Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Reverend Joel F. Nelson. He died Monday morning at Austin State Hospital after a long illness and heart attacks. He is survived by four sisters and one brother. Interment at Our Savior's Church Cemetery Norse.

Clifton seeks Bosque River water rights to support growth

Clifton mayor Charles M. Issenhower filed an application with the Texas Water Commission on March 14 to appropriate 600 acre feet of water annually from above the Bosque River dam north of Clifton. A hearing is set for May 1 at 10:00 A.M. in Austin for interested parties to appear.

Clifton High School sent a strong team to the Hillsboro High School sponsored Speech and Literary Festival held March 16 with over 300 attendees from ten schools. Midway captured the sweepstakes trophy while Clifton earned second place. top individual honors went to Charlotte Miles for shorthand and Janice Willenberg for ready writing with Sherian Conway placing in Bible reading.

Nelson Boys Undergo Foot Surgeries in Dallas Hospital

Donald Nelson age 10 and Hilly Nelson age 15, sons of Mr and Mrs W F Nelson of Clifton, were operated on at the Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children in Dallas. Both boys entered the hospital last Wednesday and will stay about two weeks after Monday surgery. Donald had both feet operated on. Hilly had one foot operated on. Their mother reports doctors deem the procedures a success.

Burglars Strike County Tax Office

The Meridan county tax assessor office in the courthouse was burglarized at noon on Tuesday March 19, with 262 dollars in cash taken. Doors were locked and entry gained by ladder via a door ridge. checks were left intact. Only the cash drawer was emptied. Velma W. Golden rested nearby. Sheriff and Highway Patrol officers had just left for lunch. a similar burglary was reported at Hillsboro’s Hill County courthouse.

Clifton residents return home after hospital visit

Mr and Mrs Nolan Scott of Route 1 Morgan left Clifton hospital on March 18 and returned home Wednesday. First Methodist Church members in Clifton worked this week landscaping the new parsonage yard enhancing its appearance. Mrs Rodney Prinz of Houston arrived in Clifton to visit her relatives for two to three weeks.
