Centennial fete marks 100 years at Norse church

Our Savior's Lutheran Church Norse celebrated its centennial June 28 29 with about 600 attendees. The Saturday program opened with Faith of Our Fathers led by Rev Albert Petrich and tributes from former pastors Rev Elmer Larson and Rev Joel Nelson. Sunday service featured Liturgists Rev Nelson and Petrich with organist Mrs Gayle Squyres and special music Behold a Host. Kenneth Solberg preached a sermon, offerings were collected in a procession, and the closing hymn was My Church My Dear Old Church. The Sunday service drew 475 attendees and a catered noon meal followed in the Parish Hall.

Derailment Damages Three Cars Near Clif ton Valley Mills

Four box cars and a caboose derailed near the lime plant siding between Clifton and Valley Mills Monday afternoon around 1 p.m. No injuries were reported. Santa Fe official E. E. Baker said a hot wheel on the fourth car from the end caused the derailment. Track repair crews of over 30 men expected to restore the main line by about 10 p.m.

Fire Chief Warns of Extreme Dangers as Blazing Week Continues

Clifton volunteers rushed to King Creek Lodge near Lake Whitney and to Alfie farm north of Clifton to battle fires fed by heat and wind. Chief George Harris urged residents to avoid burning trash until after rain and called for business inspections to spot hazards and aid firefighting readiness.

The Valley Mills Gun Club on the Bob Nielson farm will host a skeet shoot Sunday afternoon July 13 starting at 1 pm A meal will be served from 7 to 8 for $1.25 Members who paid dues from July 1 1969 to 1970 may eat free Shooters and spectators are welcome.

Mrs G A Groppel dies. funeral in Clifton

Mrs G A Meta Groppel, 1, died Monday July 7 at her Clifton home. Funeral services were held Wednesday July 9 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clifton, conducted by Rev Erwin Knitt. Burial followed in Clifton Cemetery.

City Urges Water Conservation and Infrastructure Upgrades

Clifton City Council urged residents to conserve water and turn off lawn sprinklers during fire sirens amid rising usage.
