Thieves Loot Boat and Trailer From Lake Whitney Area

Bosque County Sheriff John Baxter reports a theft of a boat and trailer from near Uncle Gus Lodge on Lake Whitney. The rig valued at about 5000 dollars was recovered after days of effort from five thieves. Victims declined to press charges, a move the sheriff says invites more crimes. The five suspects include a convicted adult, two 18 year olds, and a 12 year old.

Clifton Scouts Develop Skills At Camp Tahuaya

Clifton Troop 376 of the Boy Scouts attended Camp Tahuaya near Belton in the Heart Of Texas Council. The weeklong camp featured tent housing, emphasis on outdoor merit badges, and rank advancement with qualified staff on hand. Scouts named Kenneth Barnett Robbie Brown Russell Hall Jimmy Tarpley Nicky Brown Bill Pierce and Jimmy Wright were sponsored by Clifton Lions Club.

Expensive Truck Damaged In Mishap Near Bee Rock

A late model truck tractor and van semitrailer overturned on a curve 2.5 miles south of Meridian near Bee Rock last Friday July 11 at 8 30 p m. The driver Herbert Cecil Lewis of Jacksonville sustained minor injuries while the trailer suffered lesser damage. Investigating Highway Patrolman Harvey Lane noted the empty truck ran off the road then overturned in a bar ditch on the driver’s left side. The rig, owned by Robert Radle of Falfurias, had property damage estimated at five to seven thousand dollars.

Moore plays key role in Apollo II lunar mission

Ronny H Moore son of Mr and Mrs O W Moore of Valley Mills works as an aerospace engineer at NASA Manned Spacecraft Center in Houston. The center controls all NASA manned flights and will oversee the Apollo TT flight from launch to recovery. He graduated Valley Mills High in 1961 and earned a B S in 1966 from Arlington State College. His wife Linda is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Jeff Bland of Crawford.

Dr. W. T. Helder Joins SMU Hospital Staff in Dallas

Clifton physician Dr. W T Helder has accepted a medical staff post at Southern Methodist University Medical Health Center in Dallas He plans to begin next month after 21 years in Clifton He says SMU patients include students faculty and staff and his duties will be regular clinic hours with seven weeks vacation each year He may not teach at SMU and may later return to Clifton if bored or for different hours with Goodall Witcher Hospital and Clinic as a longtime colleague.

Heat grips Clifton area with 18 of 27 days at 100 plus

Local weather notes show 18 days over 100 degrees in the past 27 days in Bosque County, with no measurable rain since June 4. Through July 15 total rainfall stands at 16.80 inches, far below last year’s first half tally, while Lake Whitney area gauges report 18 days over 100 since June 19 and a peak of 105 degrees.

Cub Scout Pack No. 334 from Clifton enjoyed a two hour hike north of Clifton with Cub Master Joe K. Brown Webelos Leader Claude Richards and one father Donald Robertson guiding twenty scouts. They learned to identify poisonous plants and heard talks on First Aid for snake bites and fractures.

AUSTIN Tex stiff resistance forms to an 11.4 percent average private auto insurance rate hike. Gov Preston Smith vows a full scale investigation after State Insurance Board recommends the rise.
