Clovers Suggested After Freezes Kill Oats In Bosque District
The Bosque Soil Conservation District reports damaged oat stands after recent freezes. Plant Hubam or Madrid clover now to improve soil and provide future seed. Madrid will come out after hard freezes and mature next July 1964. Clovers add nitrogen and organic matter, boosting next crop yields. Local ASCS office can advise on cost sharing. Also notes pond construction for several landowners to improve livestock water and waterways shaping to reduce erosion and carry water efficiently across cropland.

Amy Henrietta Anderson aged 83 of 1200 South Walnut Street Brady died Sunday night January 27 in Brady Hospital. Born March 21, 1879 near Clifton she lived in Brady 46 years. Survived by brother Dr James S Anderson and sisters Agnes Glasscock and Clarice Vincent, all Brady. Service held January 28 at Wilkerson Chapel Brady with Reverend Alen Brown. burial in Brady Cemetery.

Our Savior's Lutheran in the Norse community held a family fellowship night with a potluck supper, program, games, and stunts. The ALCW sponsors monthly events with Mrs Milton Brown in charge. February’s birthday table featured Valentine decor and a heart cake by Miss Sue Amundson. music by Miss Amundson and Connie Jo Hoel Cararelle led a monthly quiz. Next gathering set for March 3 at 6:30 PM. visitors Mr and Mrs W. W. Bankston and son Mark traveled from Dallas to Clifton to visit relatives.

Cynthia Alice Homan aged 81 of McGregor died near 12:45 PM Monday February 4 at Clifton Lutheran Sunset Home where she had resided since December 26 1955 She was born in Mississippi moved to Texas at 13 married to Dr David C Homan in 1899 He died in 1938 She left two sons three brothers four sisters and three grandchildren Funeral services were held February 5 at Lee Funeral Home Chapel in McGregor with Rev Tony Campbell and Rev Robert Stout officiating Interment followed at Post Oak Cemetery near Oglesby. Also noted Burleson visitors at the Ahlstad home.

Nine Clifton High School students and three local teachers attended the Student Activities Conference at Stephenville on Saturday February 2. The event sponsored by Tarleton State College and The University Interscholastic League featured Ready writing chaired by Dr John Erickson of The University of Texas. Mary Willenborg won first place. other participants joined in poetry interpretation prose reading persuasive speaking and extemporaneous speaking. Lois Nell Lammert left for Austin to enroll as a UT senior for the second semester.
